CARIUMA -  RETAIL DESIGN

2018LOS ANGELES, USATHE GROOVE

For Cariuma’s US launch we created a compact urban jungle, inspired by the silhouette of Amazon landscape and the tropical lifestyle.

The aim was to bring a taste of Rio to LA. We explored the use of salt and the associations it can bring - the smell of the ocean, the feeling of sand (salt) between your toes once you take your shoes off; the sweat on your skin, close interactions on busy streets.

We installed over 120 green plants to create a humid, moist environment to deliver a flavour of Rio’s vibrant jungle. In this setting we decided to imagine a world where plants are the new luxury.

This project was a conflict, an escape, and a connection.

A poetic reflection of Rio de Janeiro’s Carioca lifestyle, this immersive pop-up shop introduced a new Brazilian sneaker brand. A tribute to Helio Oiticica, the space reimagines his "Tropical Playground" with salt underfoot, while the floor’s Oscar Niemeyer-inspired design plays with perspective. Minimalist displays highlight the products, and overgrown plants guide your movement through an intimate, warm environment.

2019 SOHO, NEW YORK POP UP STORE

An experiential pop-up in Soho, New York, celebrating Rio's authentic bar culture, where you can hang out, drink, and dance. The space features authentic, used chairs from iconic Rio bars, each telling a story while doubling as seating and shelving. These chairs carry the spirit of neighborhoods like Ipanema, Copacabana, and Lapa. Inspired by Escadaria Selarón's vibrant tiles, the shop's design reflects Brazil’s "sem frescura" vibe with beer crate bar tops, overgrown plants, and a laid-back atmosphere.

2020 LONDON, UKSELFRIDGES
Key focus was creating narratives through impactful visual displays to introduce Cariuma's ethos.

The pop up introduced innovative materials, creative design and recycled solutions. Encouraging and empowering sustainable choices.

Cariuma’s commitment to aiding reforestation in the Amazon by planting a pair of trees for each pair purchased. This was communicated through the act of giving away a Pachiera tree to customers who showed interest in the brand and with every purchase.

The overproduction and disposal of plastic bottles and caps have led to a global environmental crisis, with millions of these items polluting landfills and oceans. This waste, which takes centuries to decompose, harms wildlife and disrupts ecosystems. Despite recycling efforts, most plastic is not properly disposed of, worsening the issue. To address this, it's vital to halt the production of single-use plastics and embrace creative solutions like biodegradable materials and reusable systems. In support of this, we've backed innovative projects such as an artist-led initiative in London that repurposes plastic caps into wall art with local children, and a program that crafts skateboards from bottle caps, which we after the time of Cariuma installation at Selfridges ended. donated to young refugee women who find inspiration in skateboarding.

2020 VENICE BEACH, USA  POP UP STORE
The Sneaker Bar introduced Cariuma to NYC - celebrating Rio’s vibrancy, culture and people.

The pop up was a place for people to gather, pull up a chair and try on a pair. Bar crates, checked flooring, old barware set the scene with the removable chairs all silent witnesses to the late nights, dancing and live music that fills the streets of Rio. Each chair was hoisted directly from old bars in Ipanema, Copacabana and Lapa with their own story to tell.

The window celebrated the world famous ceramic tile staircases of the Lapa and Santa Teresa neighbourhoods designed by Jorge Selaron. The vibrant colours of the original stairs inspired the first colourways of Cariuma sneakers.

This interactive pop-up experience was designed to invite visitors to reflect on their impact on the environment and take steps toward reducing their carbon footprint. Restoring the Rainforest, One Pair at a Time

CARIUMA creates classic, comfortable footwear with a focus on people and the planet. For every pair sold, a tree is planted in the Brazilian rainforest, helping combat deforestation, which has already claimed 20% of the forest floor. These trees protect 60% of Brazil’s endangered species and absorb CO2 from the atmosphere. Reconnect with Nature

The pop-up features a mesmerizing short film that transports you to the heart of the rainforest, showcasing its vibrant flora and fauna. It's a reminder that our connection to nature is infinite, but we must take the time to unplug and witness its beauty. Recycle & Upcycle
True to our brand’s values, all pop-up displays are crafted from recycled and recyclable materials.
This installation features bamboo plywood, recycled green acrylic shelving, and a preserved moss table, reinforcing elegantly the brand commitment to sustainability
